It’s been interesting getting back into the flow of working full-time. Monday morning, and I’m doing my Garfield impression. Time for questions!
- What did you learn yesterday?
- What are you going to do today?
- What do you expect to learn?
Yesterday was Sunday and I learned about the video game Deus Ex. That’s probably not what you’re looking for, so we’ll look back in time further and attempt to remember Friday. Friday was actually fairly eventful, in the morning all the apprentices had a meeting with Carolyn, the senior project manager, and she explained her job and responsibilities to us. We’re going to have a meeting every week with a different department, so once they hire us as juniors we’ll have a good idea of how things work.
Friday afternoon was Smashing Labs, where people work on individual projects. I worked on Learn Ruby the Hard Way, which was largely concerned with teaching logic and truth tables.
Today, I have a new kata! This time it’s the Roman Numerals kata, which will maybe actually make me remember how Roman numerals work. I think I’m also going to start working on modding my tic-tac-toe game and making it work as a 4×4 game, but I need to talk to my mentor and see if that’s actually what he wants me to do.
I expect to learn how Roman numbers work, the rules for 4×4 tic-tac-toe, more Rspec and how to refactor code to expand a game. I did my tic-tac-toe both using the minmax algorithm and the rules-based code, and I’m not sure which of those I should refactor to make the 4×4 work. I think minmax would be easier, but I think that’s probably not the actual goal.
